Thanks for the Photos!

Here is a photo from a recent tour with Lucas and Dino, and their stop at Bridal Veil Falls. This waterfall cascades down 3500 feet, and is primarily melt from the Carmack and Cleveland glaciers. Some of that water is 10,000 year old snow fall, compacted into glacier ice. It is a great spot for photos, and the water is quite good. Some say that all glacial silt in the water makes it a natural laxative...

This picture reminds me of the Brady Bunch for some reason, and Lucas looks like he could have been a child actor.

Meet Kelsey Gall, AKA "Dinomite."

Kelsey hails from Massachusetts, where she initially pursued a passion for film. But, the call of the road kept on nagging, and Kelsey soon put pedal to the metal and joined the Bike & Build program with an epic ride from New Hampshire to Vancouver, BC. For those that do not know, Bike & Build is a non-profit that raises money for affordable housing by riding bikes all over America. Work there is volunteer, and Kelsey spent a whole summer riding with them. After that she was still eager to ride, so she pedaled from Portland to San Francisco.

Kelsey once had her chain pop off, while flying down a mountainous gravel road on a single speed coaster brake bike. We hope she has recovered...

Our new tours are now posted on our website at www.cyclealaska.com, and are ready for booking!

The first new tour offering is a 7 hour, 38-mile road trip in the Southern Yukon. We bike from Log Cabin, BC to Carcross, YT. The riding is mostly flat/downhill with a few slight hills and is fully van supported. This is some amazing country - mountains, wildlife, the headwaters of the Yukon, and remnants of old mining towns. We have road and hybrid bikes ready for the tour, and it really is suitable for most moderate levels of riding. The tour is also fully van supported, so you can hop in at any point and rest or be shuttled. We are offering the tour right now at $160, which is a bargain for 7 hours of touring, and it includes a snack and a boxed lunch.

The second new tour offering is a city tour of Skagway. We tailor the ride to your riding ability, and provide an interpretive ride of our waterfront, historic Skagway, the city of Skagway, the train yards, and either Dyea Hill or the Gold Rush cemetery and Reid Falls. The tour is meant for families, and we can hook a tag-a-long or a trailer to your bike for smaller children. You can also combine the tour with either a visit to Jewel Gardens or the Gold Rush Brewery, both excellent lunch options.

Other than that our season is still sunny, and all of our guides are trained and ready to go. We will be updating the blog with introductions to our guides, and other stories from our summer touring season.

Start of Summer 2010!!

It has been sunny with blue skies for the past week here in southeast Alaska as we start to get into the full swing of our summer tourist season! We have got a great staff ready to take people on the adventures of their lifetime and are offering a few new tours this season. Our guides come from a multiple number of backgrounds and experiences and are eager to show people our spectacular valley. We have several expert bikers, naturalists, and teachers here to show people a great time in Alaska.

This summer we will be offering a 1hr city tour that can be combined with a visit to the spectacular Jewell Gardens or with the ever entertaining Klondike Gold Dredge. For the more adventurous we will be unveiling a 35 mile road tour from Fraser, BC to Carcross Yukon Territory! This is a moderate ride, with full van support, and traverses some of the most spectacular mountain and lake country you will ever lay eyes on. It will be up and posted with our other tours at www.cyclealaska.com.

Keep checking in with us, and we will keep on posting photos, videos, and stories from AK!
